Google I/O 2021 is around the corner, and while we are all pretty excited to witness one of the major tech events virtually, Google just released the schedule to add fuel to the fire. The complete Google I/O 2021 schedule hints at some major announcements covering Android and smart home tech.
Google I/O 2021 Schedule: Big Beginnings
Like we already explained in our previous article about the I/O 2021, the event starts on May 18. As per Google’s recently released schedule, the action-packed 2-hour long keynote unwinds on the first day at 1 PM Eastern (10 AM Pacific). A 45-minute keynote will succeed the keynote at 3:15 PM; this one will specifically focus on developers.
Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai will helm the first keynote along with other executives. Now, this keynote one is going to be the most important part of the event. We expect it to be laced with some major announcements. When we talk about major announcements, our big bet will be the much-talked-about Pixel 5a smartphone alongside some news about Android 12. Additionally, we have Pixel Buds A that could be unveiled and some other Google-branded smart home devices.
Dedicated Segments for Google Assistant, Chrome OS, and More
When you head to the schedule page of I/O 2021, you will find a calendar option next to each event. By clicking the button, you’ll be able to set a reminder for the event. This way, you will be able to keep up with events more effectively.
Furthermore, the I/O 2021 also has a segment scheduled with the name “What’s New With Android” keynote at 4:30 PM ET. Similarly, there is also a keynote scheduled for Google Assistant on May 19 at 12:45 PM and Chrome OS on May 19 at 1:45 PM). There is also a planned keynote for a smart home panel on May 19 at 7:15 PM.
On May 18, there’s a keynote planned for Google Play at 5 PM ET and the web on the same day at 5:15 PM. Interestingly, there is also an event scheduled for Google Pay on May 19 at 5:15 PM.
Suppose you are based out of regions like Africa that won’t catch these virtual events conveniently (due to significant time difference); Google will be replaying all of them in the early morning.
The schedule shared by Google misses out on one important segment, i.e., WearOS. This means that we won’t see any action happening around the wearable segment. It is kind of a bummer because we were expecting Google to make some waves in that segment after acquiring Fitbit.
With all the information shared above, we are expecting Google to host an action-packed I/O 2021. Of course, it is going to be all-virtual this time.
