WhatsApp May Soon Add Self-destructing Photos Feature To Chats

WhatsApp seems to be working on a new feature that shall make it easier for people to share pictures without qualms. The Facebook-owned instant-messaging giant is working on a self-destructing photos feature, pretty much like the one you might have seen on Snapchat and also Instagram.

What Is Self-Destructing Photos Feature On WhatsApp?

As one could easily gauge by the name itself, the self-destructing photos feature will allow users to share their pictures that will automatically get deleted as soon as the receiver closes the chat. Such pictures cannot be forwarded or shared with other users. In its testing phase, the feature lacks screenshot protection, but one could expect it to be in place when the feature is made official on the platform for the public. The upcoming feature will be available for both iOS and Android.

The information comes from the trusted sources at WABetaInfo. As of now, Facebook has kept the feature under wraps, even from the beta testers. But still, the leaked screenshots of the feature have got leaked, so we can get some early sneak peek at them.

Check out the screenshots below:

An Automated Feature Like ‘Disappearing Messages’

WhatsApp’s ‘delete for everyone’ feature that deletes the message or media within minutes of sending essentially does the same as the self-destructing feature, except that latter is an automated feature that functions on its own. And if you have not been in the know, WhatsApp had earlier rolled out a ‘disappearing messages’ feature that automatically destructs a message. We can understand why WhatsApp is keen on bringing these features to the platform; the platform wants to one-up its rivals in any way possible.

It’s quite ironic to see a messaging service that came under the scanner for its controversial updated privacy policy rolling out such privacy-protecting features. We wonder if the platform would revisit its infamous privacy policy and make changes to accommodate users’ concerns.

In another news about WhatsApp, you will now be able to voice and video-call from its desktop app and web client, WhatsApp Web.

What’s your take on WhatsApp’s upcoming self-destructing photos feature? Would you be using it often? Share your thoughts in the comments.
