Qualcomm’s Latest Snapdragon X65 Modem Offers 10Gbps Download Speeds

Imagine having a modem capable of downloading up to 66GB of 4K content in just a minute, insane, right? Well, Qualcomm just launched a new Snapdragon X65 5G modem that comes with a promise to handle uber-fast speeds seamlessly. Standard internet speeds would take some time to deliver connections with 10Gbps speeds, but when it comes to that, Snapdragon X65 5G modem would be ready to handle it oh so smoothly!

We are now in the year 2021, and the 5G revolution has already started to unfold, so it won’t be long until we get 10Gbps speeds. Qualcomm developed the new model to handle more stable 5G speeds. It is Qualcomm’s first modem that comes with a 5G Release 16 specification. And down the line, the platform remains open to support new features through software updates; the possibilities are endless.

Tiny 4nm Manufacturing Process & New Technologies

Qualcomm based the new modem on a super-compact 4nm manufacturing process. The latest modem supports mmWave-sub6 with up to 10 100MHz carriers in the mmWave spectrum. It also has Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), 2×2 MIMO mmWave, 4×4 MIMO sub-6GHz, and further support for n259, n70, and n53 mmWave bands.

Comparison between X65 and X62 modems

Overall, the Snapdragon X65 modem supports more bands than current modems on the market and can touch the peak 10Gbps speeds. The new model also has power-saving features, including the PowerSave 2.0 that works on 3GPP Release 16 Connected-Mode Wake-Up Signal technology, 7th gen envelope tracking, and AI-Enhanced Signal Boost technologies.

These technologies help the modem step up the power-saving capabilities when touching the insane speeds at 10Gbps. Additionally, the modem also offers multi-SIM 5G support.

Managing 10Gbps Download Speeds While Saving Energy

Running 10Gbps speeds with enhanced energy efficiency demands a close working ecosystem between model and radio front end components. The Qualcomm 545 mmWave Antenna Module integrates into the latest modem without requiring any extra module space, which means that the new modem can fit into devices without requiring any physical changes in the chipset hardware.

OEMs can use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 modem for smartphones, tablets, PC, laptops, or mobile hotspot devices or dongles. It can also be integrated into fixed WiFi products, enterprise-level IoT devices, and private 5G networks.

As for the question regarding when we shall see the modem in action on smartphones or other devices, we think that we will be able to see it in the next line of flagship mobile chipsets by Qualcomm. And by that timeline, a flagship smartphone launching next year may house it.
