Rollable phones are making their way to the tech landscape with brands like LG, Oppo, and others patenting rollable designs for their next flagships. We have also encountered a series of leaks and renders around rollable smartphones. And now, in a massive step forward, Oppo X 2021 rollable phone breaks the mystery with a hands-on review appearing on YouTube ahead of launch.
Hands-On Review of Oppo X 2021 Rollable Phone Blows Our Mind
Earlier to this, we got familiar with some renders and concept illustrations of the phone but getting a full-reveal hands-on video review ahead of launch is what we were not expecting. But call it company strategy or maybe bad luck to have the device revealed before the planned launch date; we now have an 8-minute long review video featuring Oppo X 2021 rollable phone. And the review has been done by a French YouTuber, Brandon LeProkto.
In the video, LeProkto gives us a complete account of the rollable phone by Oppo. For starters, we must say that the phone looks AWESOME! Although the review video is in French, we could still gauge the information via subtitles. The phone’s design makes us feel like we have officially entered the new era of smartphones. The video also shows how smoothly the phone rolls in and rolls out. The rolling transition is so seamless, and the same goes for the software that changes according to it.
Going by the details shared in the review, we can conclude that Oppo seems to have done a splendid job with the rollable mechanism and the software. The video makes it abundantly clear that the entire functioning of the phone is smooth and seamless. We saw LeProktor rolling it in and out multiple times by tapping the side key. And it looks super easy!
We mean, just look at that rollable treat to the eyes:
We know that the design is one segment; the rest of the details lie in the overall functioning of software and battery backup on the phone. We see the regular colorOS functioning on the rollable screen with a few enhancements, such as icons reconfiguration as per the display size—even tiny elements like text movement within a browser when it rolls in and out (check the GIF below).
Another interesting detail shared in the video is that the phone lacks a selfie camera or an IP rating. Check out the rear panel image below:
Although the video gave us a full 360-degree view of the phone, there are no details concerning the phone’s pricing. Also, it’s worth noting that the phone in the review is a prototype. This means that the commercial unit could still wow us with some additional features or a tiny design change.

LeProktor also gave us some deets about interesting features on the phone. You can watch the video now because we suspect that the video might get blacklisted by YouTube at any point if Oppo files a copyright claim or something. Of course, Oppo may not do it today because of free publicity or maybe strategic publicity (who knows, really!). So, watch it as soon as you can.

As excited as we are for Oppo’s rollable phone to come out in full glory through a commercial launch, other brands are also attempting rollable designs, like LG. And we are looking forward to knowing more about that too!
