If you thought that the CES 2021 has been all about some serious home and personal tech, then you couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, the show catered to several aspects of our lives and added a ting of tech to most of them, including the fashion and beauty domain. At the virtual event, we witnessed a new gadget that aims at creating custom lipstick mixes.
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Sur Mesure Creates Custom Lipsticks
L’Oreal – a brand under YSL’s cosmetic line, unveiled Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Sur Mesure Powered by Perso. The gadget can create custom lipstick shades by mixing two different colors. This gadget’s usability is that users do not need to buy a new shade as they can create one by mixing two solid color shades.
To recall, L’Oreal first unveiled the Perso at the CES 2020 as a prototype, and in CES 2021, it brings the device to consumers. It will be up for grabs starting this Spring.
Priced at $299, the gadget is compact. It houses up to three liquid lipstick cartridges on the inside. All three cartridges need to be deposited in equally measured amounts to create a custom color with a single press of a button. Users then just need to dip the brush in custom color and apply it to their lips. The brush comes pre-attached to the gadget on the side.
Users will be able to buy the cartridges separately in different solid shades like Red, Fuchsia, Nude, and Orange. Every pack will come with three cartridges to fill the gadget at a time and create custom mixes. The combo of Red, Fuchsia, Nude, and Orange is enough to create thousands of custom shades.
Custom App to Enable Seamless Mixing
There will be a dedicated app called the YSL Rouge Sur Mesure for users to pick the colors they require. Users will select some trending colors, all designed by L’Oreal and fashion/lifestyle influencers.
In a statement Guive Balooch, the global VP of L’Oreal Tech Incubator said:
You can also choose your hair color, and your eye color, and [the app] will recommend you palettes of shades that, based on scientific color data, will most likely will match well to your features.

Additionally, users can take a picture of their bag, footwear, eyeshadow, or any other makeup or fashion accessory to create a custom lipstick shade to match and complement it. Users can also use the color wheel to pick a specific shade.
The YSL Rouge Sur Mesure app will also allow users to choose colors that match their skin tone or outfit of the day.
Well, we must say that the gadget is quite impressive. It looks sleek and stylish, which can easily fit into handbags or clutches. Although priced a bit high, the gadget will most likely be a hit among the target users who love fashion and beauty.
As for the cartridges, each pack consisting of three cartridges will set users back by $100. Well, that does not sound obnoxiously overpriced because a single lipstick from YSL costs up to $40.
Also, L’Oreal plans on bringing the gadget to its official makeup lineup. It means that we could see some lower-priced variants of the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Sur Mesure.
