After months of continual leaks and teasers, we finally have the OnePlus 9 series out and about. OnePlus launched its flagship lineup at an event today alongside the OnePlus Watch. Both the new smartphones – OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro – pack some serious punch, and in this article, we will run you through all the details that you need to know about them.

OnePlus 9 & OnePlus 9 Pro: Pricing, Availability

OnePlus aims to rival other flagships like Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra and Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max with its OnePlus 9 Pro smartphone. The OnePlus 9 is more of a standard version.

For the US market, the OnePlus 9 is priced at $729 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant and $829 for the 12GB of RAM/256GB storage model. On the other hand, the OnePlus 9 Pro model starts at $969 for the 8GB RAM/128GB variant and $1,069 for the 12GB of RAM/256GB storage model.

Both the smartphones are set to hit the sales shelves on April 2, 2021, while the preordering begins on March 26, 2021. The OnePlus 9 Pro will be up for grabs in Black, Green, and Silver color options, while the OnePlus 9 will be up for sale in Black, Blue, and Light Purple color variants.

Specifications & Features

Let’s start with the cameras onboard that OnePlus has developed in collaboration with Hasselblad. The company claims that it has tweaked the colors to get a more natural look, while the ultrawide sensor on both phones is the biggest sensor ever used on a smartphone. The ultrawide lens features a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor that’s with an f/2.2 aperture.

The primary sensor on the OnePlus 9 Pro features a 48MP Sony IMX789 sensor, while the OnePlus 9 settles for a 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor. Both the phones have a 2MP monochrome sensor and a 16MP selfie camera, but the OnePlus 9 Pro also gets an 8MP telephoto lens.

OnePlus has also included Hasselblad Pro mode in the camera software to offer enhanced control over photography settings, and it also includes a focus peaking feature that improves the focus. Both the phones can record up to 8K videos at 30fps, and the OnePlus 9 Pro can also record 4K videos at 120fps.

The OnePlus 9 packs a 6.55-inch full-HD+ Fluid AMOLED display, while the OnePlus 9 Pro features a 6.7-inch QHD+ Fluid Display 2.0 AMOLED display. Both the phones boast a 120Hz curved display that tweaks its refresh rate automatically according to the content played on the screen. This functionality brings down the power consumption by up to 50 percent, the company claims. It also boasts Hyper Touch technology that comes in handy with touch responses during intense gaming sessions.

Under the hood, both smartphones are powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset featuring bigger vapor chambers that help them run cooler for extended hours.

A 4,500mAh battery backs the smartphones with support for Warp Charge 65T that the company touts to charge the battery to 100 percent in up to 30 minutes. The OnePlus 9 Pro can charge wireless at up to 50W, while the OnePlus 9 supports wireless charging at 15W.

OnePlus Watch

The long-rumored OnePlus Watch packs a 1.39-inch HD AMOLED display with a 2.5D curved glass protection on top. The wearable boasts ‘seamless connection’ support enabling users to get voice calls and notifications on their watch screen.

Interestingly, the smartwatch can also be used as a remote control for the OnePlus TV and can automatically power off the TV when it detects the user is asleep. It also intuitively lowers down the TV volume whenever you get a call on your phone.

OnePlus Watch comes with connectivity support, including GPS and Bluetooth. It boasts an IP68 rating and 5ATM water resistance. A 405mAh battery backs the watch with support for Warp Charge fast charging. OnePlus claims up to a week’s battery life on a 20-minute charge and up to 24 hours of backup on just a 5-minute charge.

The OnePlus Watch will be up for sale in Midnight Silver or Midnight Black for $159. The company is yet to announce the pricing for the Cobalt Limited Edition. At this pricing, the OnePlus Watch will rival Xiaomi’s Mi Watch and AmazFit wearables.
